This page brings together a series of public questions addressed to individual councillors, published in the period leading up to the local elections and beyond.
Local government decisions shape everyday life in ways that are often practical rather than dramatic — how services are run, how priorities are set, and how representatives understand the role they were elected to perform. While many of those decisions are taken lawfully and through established processes, they are not always explained in a way that residents can easily follow or assess.
The purpose of this series is simple: to invite councillors to explain significant decisions they have taken in public office, in their own words, and in a way that is accessible to the people they represent.
Each question focuses on a specific, identifiable decision or pattern of decisions that is already a matter of public record. The questions are not allegations, nor are they intended to predetermine conclusions. They are an invitation to account — openly, calmly, and without presumption — for how those decisions were understood at the time they were made.
Where councillors choose to respond, replies will be published in full and unedited, alongside the original question. Where no response is received, the question will remain open.
Over time, this page will build into a public record of explanations offered — and not offered — by those seeking or holding local office. It is not intended to promote any party or candidate. Its purpose is to support informed local discussion by making reasoning, judgement, and accountability more visible. Local democracy depends not only on the right to vote, but on the ability of residents to understand how their representatives think about the choices they make. This series is one way of contributing to that understanding.
